Cerrejón has achieved excellent results on the basis of a safe, reliable, and sustainable operation. This has been possible due to the talent of the company's human resources, who comprise a valuable team of people from throughout the country who are always willing to contribute to make the company's goals a reality.
We have a direct labour force of more than 5,204 employees, made up of 84% technical personnel and 16% professionals. 62% are natives of La Guajira, headquarters of our operation, 28% come from other areas along the Atlantic Coast, and 10% from the rest of the country. We additionally count on the support of 4,333 workers from contractor companies, for a total of 9,537 people employed at our operation.
All the employees are over 18 years of age. In order to address the technical demands of a mining operation, we are developing a training program based on technology transfer and, in collaboration with the National Training Service (SENA, its acronym in Spanish), we are training technicians and operators.
