Education

In this area, our actions are aimed at the design, execution, and implementation of educational programs and models that boost the economic and social development of La Guajira.

In conjunction with the authorities and representatives of the educational community, we coordinate strategies and projects with the aim of raising the quality of education and opportunities for access to it for children, young people, professionals, and teachers in the mining area of influence.

The programs developed to comply with this purpose are as follows:

Cerrejón Scholarships for Excellence

Each year we select the 10 best secondary school graduates (natives to the region) using the ICFES results in La Guajira. These receive a full scholarship for their university studies at any university and academic program in the country.

Strengthening of the Early-Childhood Policy

Recognizing the importance of play as a learning tool for children, together with the Corporación Día de la Niñez, assigned to the Office of the President of the Republic, we invested in the construction of three recreation centres in La Guajira that serve more than 2,000 children between 0-8 years of age.

Academic Reinforcement

Youths with an Apprenticeship Contract with our company are the target population of this program, which seeks to raise their academic level in areas such as maths, physics, reading and writing, English, and others.

Fulbright–Cerrejón Scholarship for La Guajira

In collaboration with Fulbright Colombia, we select a Guajiro professional, academic, or researcher to whom we grant a scholarship to pursue their master’s or doctoral studies in the United States. In this way, we support La Guajira’s goals for development and competitiveness.

Strengthening School Administration in Educational Institutions

We contribute to the institutional strengthening of education in La Guajira through training and skill-building amongst the region’s head teachers and teachers.

Vocational-Educational Training for Employment

In collaboration with the SENA, we promote the entry of young secondary school graduates from the region's vulnerable populations into a technical/technological education that allows them to develop their work skills.
