LUIS MARULANDA DEL VALLE, NEW VICE PRESIDENT OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS AND COMMUNICATIONS AT CERREJÓN

Luis Eduardo Marulanda del Valle has been appointed today as the new vice president of Cerrejón’s Public Affairs and Communications to lead strategies for social affairs, resettlements, social dialogue, communications, standards, and corporate responsibility, as well as engagement with key local, national, and international actors.

Luis Eduardo has 35 years of experience in the mining and hydrocarbon sectors. He is a graduate in law and socio-economic sciences from the Javeriana University, with complementary studies in international and comparative petroleum law at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy at the University of Dundee (Scotland, United Kingdom).

For the last six years, he was vice president of Corporate Affairs at Cerro Matoso. His professional career has covered such diverse positions as legal vice president at Carbones de Colombia S.A., Mobil Colombia S.A., and ExxonMobil in Venezuela. He was also senior counsel of ExxonMobil Corporation, president of BHP Billiton Petroleum Colombia, and senior commercial manager of Broken Hill Proprietary (a BHP affiliate) in the United States.

In his new role at Cerrejón, he will work on strengthening relations with our stakeholders, particularly the communities neighbouring the operations, in order to contribute to their well-being and sustainability. Luis Eduardo will continue to promote our work coordinating public and private actors to undertake strategic projects in La Guajira that contribute to improving the department’s socio-economic conditions. In addition, he will monitor the social standards adopted by the company in order for us to continue undertaking a responsible operation that is respectful to its stakeholders and the environment.
