Cerrejón will donate mechanical ventilators to three hospitals at La Guajira

Cerrejón will donate three mechanical ventilators for pediatric and adult use to hospitals located at Riohacha, Maicao and San Juan municipalities. The equipment, expected to arrive at early July, will be useful for medical attention of Guajirans patients under critical conditions.

The acquisition of the ventilators is part of the COP $2,000 million social investment program led by Cerrejón to contribute for the strengthening of medical centers at La Guajira during COVID – 19 contingency.

“Today, more than ever, we must understand the relevance of prioritize aids towards the health sector. That is why at Cerrejón we made a huge effort to obtain these ventilators, under current situation where medical supplies are scarce on the international market. However, we could access to these three mechanical ventilators that meet technical requirements for the attention of patients with severe respiratory distress” mentioned Luis Marulanda, Public Affairs and Communications Cerrejón’s Vice-president.

As a response to the crisis induced by COVID – 19 and the need to reduce contagion among its workers, families and general population, Cerrejón reduced operations temporarily, focusing solely on guaranteeing the effectiveness of controls and recommendations of the governmental entities before the gradual restart of operations, in order to continue contributing to the well-being of the department of La Guajira and its economic stability.

“Cerrejón continues supporting La Guajira to prevent the spread of COVID-19. However, this task must be a shared responsibility. If we want to overpass this situation to be back together, we should understand that self-care is essential. For this reason, we ask La Guajira and its inhabitants to follow the recommendations on this matter given by the authorities”, concluded Marulanda.
