Executive Committee

Our Executive Committee is in charge of leading the company. In selecting its members, factors such as diversity, leadership, knowledge, and experience are taken into account. We are proud that 38% of those members are women. We are currently the only mining company in operation in Colombia headed by a woman.

He has more than 33 years of experience in underground and open pit mining in various companies. He has been President of BHP South Africa Coal/South 32, Director of Operations BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (Australia), Executive Vice President of Operations Glencore Copper North Chile Division, President of Collahuasi Joint Venture (Anglo American and Glencore, Chile), President of Minera Alumbrera (Glencore, Argentina) and general manager of Ernest Henry Operation (Glencore, Australia).

Luis Eduardo Marulanda

Vice President Public Affairs and Communications

He is a graduate in law and economic sciences from the Javeriana University, with complementary studies in international and comparative petroleum law at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy at the University of Dundee (Scotland). He has more than 30 years of experience in the oil and mining sectors. He joined Cerrejón at the beginning of 2020 to lead the social strategy, engagement with authorities, and Cerrejón's positioning.

Myriam Vargas

Vice President of Legal

She graduated with a degree in law from the University of the Andes, specializing in Public Management and Administrative Institutions at the same institution, and a Master's Degree in Administrative Law from the University of Paris. She has 20 years of experience in various areas of law (administrative, energy & mining, and public and private contracting). In addition, she has teaching experience at the Andes University and the Externado University. Since 2019, she has led Cerrejón's Legal Department.

Edgar Alfonso

Vice President of Finance

He graduated in accounting from the National University of Bogotá, with studies in Finance from the University of the Andes, and an MBA from Northwestern University. More than 15 years of experience in the mining & energy sector. Since 2020, he has worked on a team with all organization areas to ensure compliance with the company's financial goals.

Juanita Bejarano

Vice President of Human Resources and Corporate Services

She graduated in psychology from the University of la Sabana. During her professional career, she has had managerial experience in human resources and talent management in different regions and countries of Latin America. She joined Cerrejón in 2019 to lead the talent management and culture work of our team, along with all the administrative services.

Angela Lopez

Vice President of Maintenance

Electronic Engineer from Javeriana University. He joined Cerrejón in 2005, where he has held different positions. Since 2023 he has led the Vice Presidency of Maintenance where he ensures the management of the maintenance strategy of all mining assets, facilities, plants and energy and water networks of the Cerrejón operation.

Roque Castaño

Vice President of Production

Mining and Metallurgy Engineer from the National University with a Specialization in Finance from the University of Cartagena. He joined Cerrejón more than 28 years ago, working as an analyst, superintendent and manager of Coal Management. Since 2022, he has been a member of our Steering Committee, where he manages the strategy to extract coal in the different pits, ensuring that our mining process meets the highest safety, operational, and environmental standards.
