At Cerrejón we are committed to an environmentally sustainable operation that protects the environment and promotes environmental education throughout our organization. Our strategic approach is aligned with five key pillars: biodiversity and landscape, water, air, waste and materials, and energy and climate action.

Since the beginning of our operations, we have rehabilitated over 5,200 hectares of land previously used for open-pit mining, transforming them into restored areas that contribute to the conservation of the Tropical Dry Forest.

Together with local communities, we strengthen the Wuin Manna biological corridor, a reserve of over 25,000 hectares, which has reestablished the movement of endangered species such as the jaguar, which has been spotted again in La Guajira after more than 50 years.

Our commitment to biodiversity includes the planting of approximately 3.7 million native trees from over 40 species, fostering the connection between the Serranía del Perijá and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

It is a priority for us to responsibly manage environmental risks and impacts, which supports a sustainable operation that can benefit the environment and the communities around us.
