Cerrejón has published its 2025 Sustainability Report, presenting the company’s environmental, social, and operational performance, as well as its continued commitment to responsible mining, transparency and long-term value creation for Colombia and La Guajira.

The report was launched in a webinar held in partnership with the University of La Guajira, bringing together representatives from communities, academia and company employees and contractors to reflect on the collective efforts that continue to drive meaningful progress across the region.

In 2025, Cerrejón operated in a challenging economic and market environment marked by declining thermal coal prices, which led the company to reduce production to 16.8 million tonnes. Despite these conditions, Cerrejón continued advancing initiatives focused on safety, operational efficiency, environmental management, stakeholder engagement, social investment, and human rights commitments.

Among the main results highlighted in the report are the 12,434 direct employees and contractors working across the operation; USD 22 Million invested in social initiatives; 411 agreements reached with communities as part of the consultation process related to Constitutional Court ruling T-704; and the delivery of 50 million litres of water to 164 communities located near the railway line and Puerto Bolívar.

The report also highlights USD 165 Million contributed in royalties and USD 19 Million in local taxes, reinforcing Cerrejón’s contribution to public finances and regional development. In addition, the company allocated USD 87 Million to local procurement and contracts, supporting economic activity in La Guajira.

In environmental management, Cerrejón invested USD 110 Million in initiatives focused on emissions control, water management, biodiversity, and land rehabilitation. By the end of 2025, the company had planted over four million trees and rehabilitated more than 5,300 hectares.

This year’s report places particular emphasis on resilient communities and Cerrejón’s evolving social management approach, aimed at strengthening local capacities while respecting traditional knowledge, culture, and community leadership. Through this approach, the company seeks to support sustainable opportunities and greater autonomy for communities over time.
