Following recent concerns raised by different actors about the status of our commitment to the Tabaco community, we would like to give an update on the progress of community initiatives.

Seven jaguars cross the biological corridor that Cerrejón protects in La Guajira
In the biological corridor that Cerrejón protects in La Guajira and that will cover more than 25,000 hectares, seven jaguars have been found, whose presence shows the health and restoration of the natural ecosystems of the area, connecting tropical dry forests between the Serranía del Perijá and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

Cerrejón informs
After more than 48 hours of the railway and main entrance to Puerto Bolívar being blocked by members of the Sarrutsira indigenous community from the Media Luna area, and as a result of efforts made by Cerrejón and the authorities to engage in constructive dialogue with the community, an agreement was peacefully reached.

Guardians of the Forest
Camilo José Pérez is a 14-year-old boy who is in eighth grade at the San Rafael educational institution, located in Albania, La Guajira, the municipality where he lives with his parents and nine siblings. For him, nature has always meant everything: the air he breathes, the food he feeds on and the environment where he lives. The commitment to care for the environment, led Camilo to be part of the Guardians of the Forest program, in which another 100 students and teachers also participate.

We planted the first tree of the 187,500 that will be planted by Cerrejón
With the purpose of restoring and protecting 300 hectares of tropical dry forest, 187,500 native trees will be planted during 2019 by the Cerrejón Foundation and more than 150 people from the community associations of ALCEBA and AWAVICHOR belonging to the municipalities of Albania, Hatonuevo and Barrancas, who will be in charge of reforesting and recovering this ecosystem of great value for La Guajira, and of which only 8% of the original inventory that existed in the country remains.
