Cerrejón informs

posted: 01/06/2026

Cerrejón has this year experienced almost 80 blockades that have affected its operations, particularly its railroad activities. Almost all these blockades are protests against the authorities for the lack of basic services to the communities close to our operations. One of these blockades began on May 23 and remains ongoing, preventing the supply of essential goods to our operation, including fuel, the transport of coal to the port, and production activities at the mine.

As a result of this blockade, which constitutes a force majeure event, Cerrejón’s mining, rail, and port operations will be suspended as of today. Consequently, the majority of employment contracts will be suspended, except for those essential to care, maintenance, and preservation activities during the shutdown. These activities will include required social measures and mandatory environmental controls.

We reiterate our call for constructive dialogue to bring an end to these actions, which not only affect Cerrejón’s operations but also generate negative impacts on employment, regional development, and the economic stability of La Guajira and Colombia.
