Cerrejón Announces Production Reduction
March 25, 2025 – Cerrejón announces it will begin reducing its annual production by 5 to 10 million tonnes starting immediately. Annual production is now expected to range between 11 and 16 million tonnes, subject to ongoing review based on market conditions.
The primary reason for this reduction is the unsustainable prices of seaborne thermal coal.
This production cut will not affect Cerrejón’s current social or environmental commitments.
Coal will remain an important basic commodity for affordable energy generation for decades to come. While Cerrejón has implemented several initiatives to respond to today’s challenging market conditions, we believe this decision will help ensure the sustainability of our operations and the company’s continued ability to generate revenue for the region and the country.
