Cerrejón continues providing medical supplies to hospitals in La Guajira

Cerrejón delivered a new batch of medical supplies to the Departmental Ministry for Health in La Guajira and to the hospitals in Albania, Maicao, Uribia, Barrancas, and Hatonuevo. This delivery comprised chamber inhalers, face masks, gloves, caps, gurneys, and surgical soap, benefiting over 600 medical personnel working in intensive care units and treating patients with COVID-19 symptoms.

“Today we received a new delivery of protective elements from Cerrejón. On the part of the San José Hospital of Maicao, I give endless thanks to Cerrejón for their huge generosity. We very much appreciate your support and collaboration. I would like to assure you that, as we have always done, these resources will be used in the best way, since thanks to them, we can continue performing our mission”, afirmó durante la entrega Giovanni Salamanca, Interventor del Hospital San José del municipio de Maicao.

This aid is part of a donation of COP 2 billion that the company announced to help medical centres in La Guajira be prepared to address the health emergency. It has become a challenge given the scarcity of stock throughout the world due to the high demand for appropriate health supplies.

“Today more than ever we need to understand the importance of prioritizing aid to the healthcare sector. This emergency must keep us all alert. Here at Cerrejón, we will continue to support La Guajira and, of course, implement the necessary measures to keep our people free of this disease. However, this must be a commitment by all as self-protection is fundamental” , commented Juan Carlos García Otero, Cerrejón’s manager of Social Affairs.

Due to the COVID-19 crisis and the need to reduce the possibility of infection amongst our workers, family members, and the general public, Cerrejón temporarily slowed down operations and centred on ensuring the effectiveness of the controls and recommendations issued by government agencies so as to be able to re-establish operations safely to continue contributing to the well-being of the department of La Guajira and its economic stability.
