Cerrejón reaches five million litres of water delivered to La Guajira during the COVID-19 emergency

Cerrejón has already delivered five million litres of drinking water to address the needs of La Guajira and thus help in tackling the COVID-19 emergency. This aid is part of our partnership with the regional government of La Guajira to deliver water in Puerto Bolívar and the Mine (thanks to their treatment plants) and at other points along the railroad tracks with the Water Train.

“We continue to be committed to La Guajira. Since the agreement reached with the department’s authorities, we have now reached five million litres of water delivered to the regional government for distribution to communities. Water is crucial in this emergency, and we will spare no effort in supporting the population of La Guajira” , stated Luis Marulanda, vice president of Cerrejón.

In addition to delivering this water to the regional government, the company also continues to distribute water to the communities in our area of influence.

“The municipality of Albania’s Office of Risk Management would like to thank and congratulate Cerrejón for those five million litres of water delivered to municipalities. We are part of that support and we are very pleased, but the community is even happier. Thanks go out to this company that has reached out a hand to us. It is gratifying to see the families when they receive this precious water” , noted Jorge Peinado, from Albania’s Office of Risk Management.

During this emergency, Cerrejón has demonstrated its continued commitment to La Guajira with an investment of six billion pesos to distribute 25,000 boxes of foodstuffs amongst ethnic communities in lockdown, deliver up to 240,000 litres of drinking water a day to the regional government, and donate medical supplies to La Guajira’s hospitals so they are prepared to face COVID-19.
