Puerto Bolívar receives the Declaration of Compliance of the Port Facility 140001
July 22, 2019. For the past 30 years, we have aimed to develop our operations while minimising and mitigating their impact on their environment.
Since 1985, the direct-loading system was implemented in Puerto Bolívar, with covered conveyor belts. Environmental controls were deployed to ensure adequate management of the risks that represents a seaport operation.

Thanks to the commitment with which this process has been carried out, the Company received from the International Maritime Organization, the Declaration of Compliance of the Port Facility 140001, which is granted to those organizations that meet the safe operating standards.
This certification, mandatory for all ports that receive vessels over 500 tons, is essential for the operation of Puerto Bolívar and has been granted for a period of five years.
Likewise, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) establishes a framework of cooperation in the maritime field to detect threats and adopt preventive measures, as indicated by the International Code for the Security of Ships and Port Facilities, (also known as ISPS Code).

In Colombia, these procedures are regulated by the General Maritime Directorate in Colombia (DIMAR), which also endorsed the Port’s protection and risk analysis plan, presented by the Operations Protection area, considering that it contemplates the necessary measures to counteract the eventualities of this maritime operation.
Cerrejón has a management system that gives coal buyers a peace of mind about the quality of our export processes and practices, this certification is a proof of a reliable operation in Puerto Bolívar.

In Cerrejón, we are natural friends of La Guajira. During our more than 30 years, we have developed our operations in a respectful way with the environment and applying the highest operational, environmental and social standards.
