We planted the first tree of the 187,500 that will be planted by Cerrejón
October 3, 2019. With the purpose of restoring and protecting 300 hectares of tropical dry forest, 187,500 native trees will be planted during 2019 by the Cerrejón Foundation and more than 150 people from the community associations of ALCEBA and AWAVICHOR* belonging to the municipalities of Albania, Hatonuevo and Barrancas, who will be in charge of reforesting and recovering this ecosystem of great value for La Guajira, and of which only 8% of the original inventory that existed in the country remains.

With this environmental compensation project, we will contribute to the strengthening of biological corridors and to nurture the biodiversity of the region, allowing the protection of closed species such as puy, ollita de mono, corazón fino and guayacán de bola, as well as promoting the return of emblematic and representative species such as the jaguar, an indicator of the health of ecosystems and the good state of water bodies.
Our mission is to create environmental, social, individual and economic value and for this we produce coal. We invite you to know this story of the voices of its protagonists:
Listen to Juan Carlos García, Resettlement, Land and Environmental Compensation Manager
