Following recent concerns raised by different actors about the status of our commitment to the Tabaco community, we would like to give an update on the progress of community initiatives.


Cerrejón committed to enhancing cultural strengthening in Indigenous communities
Cerrejón has handed over five multipurpose spaces to indigenous Wayuu communities of Samutpio and Pushoulia (Uribia), Coropontain (Manaure), Yourepo (Maicao) and Panchomana (Albania). These spaces will contribute to enhance and strengthen the Wayuu culture and promote their traditions and customs.


Cerrejón donates two ultra-cold freezers to store COVID -19 vaccines in La Guajira
On February 19, Cerrejón delivered the first of two ultra-cold freezers and a power generator that will allow storage of COVID-19 vaccines for the inhabitants of La Guajira. This donation is just one part of the company’s contribution to strengthen the health sector in this region and to support measures to prevent the virus from spreading among the inhabitants.


Joint declaration from The Povincial indigenous community and Cerrejón
The Traditional Authorities, the Governor’s Council of the Provincial Indigenous Reservation, and Cerrejón would like to state they have reached an agreement in regard to what the company has been ordered to carry out in Ruling T-614/19. Acting within the framework of the practices and customs of the Wayuu ethnic group and based on direct and respectful dialogue, the agreement was reached by building mutual trust and with an understanding of their proximity to each other.


La Guajira assembly acknowledges Cerrejón’s support during COVID-19 emergency
Cerrejón was publicly recognized by the Departmental Assembly of La Guajira for its contribution to managing the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Assembly stressed the good coordination between the Departmental Administration and the productive sector in optimising resources aimed at reducing risks and increasing prevention, action, protection, and biosafety measures, safeguarding the lives of Guajirans and the inhabitants of the department.
